Tech layoffs in Ireland: where to go from here

A level-headed checklist for the first days after a redundancy: preserve the paperwork, check current official supports, organise the search and choose skills work you can sustain.

A redundancy can involve urgent administrative, financial and personal decisions. Do not infer the reason for your selection from a general article, and do not rely on another person's payment or notice experience as if it settles your own. Start with your written documents and the public bodies responsible for current Irish guidance.

Separate the time-sensitive official tasks from the longer job-search plan. The first list protects options; the second helps you decide what to do next.

First, the practical and time-sensitive stuff

Before strategy, handle the basics while they're fresh:

Build a plan you can actually sustain

There is no evidence-backed rule that everyone should start building immediately, that a particular length of break damages a career, or that visible activity determines who is hired. Health, caring duties, finances, immigration status and contractual restrictions can all affect the plan. Choose a weekly rhythm that leaves room for applications, recovery and any official appointments or payment conditions.

Keep claims modest. A portfolio update, course or community project may give you material to discuss, but it cannot guarantee interviews or shorten a job search. Record what you genuinely did and what evidence supports it.

Keep your search evidence current

The bottom line

Handle the official and contractual tasks first, keep the source links with your records, then build a job-search and skills plan that fits your circumstances. Accurate documents and sustainable work are useful; neither should be presented as a guarantee about how quickly the next role arrives.
